NĀ PALI COAST, KAUAʻI
I watched in awe as rogue waves crashed into the towering cliffs of the Nā Pali Coast, creating an atmospheric mist that drenched the landscape. Moments later, the scene came to life as a golden glow from the setting sun poured through an opening in the clouds to reveal the hidden depths of a sublime world.

Mt. Namolokama on the island of Kaua’i stands over 4,000 feet tall and can host several magnificent waterfalls after a good rain. Here it’s pictured on a beautiful, clear summer morning.

MAUI, HAWAII
I photographed this piece from a private helicopter after a week of remote camping and native forest restoration work with the Maui Forest Bird Project. This lone tree emerging from the mist felt like a calling for our stewardship of the land. I like to be optimistic and imagine that one day a prolific forest will exist here again on the leeward slopes of Haleakalā, filled with the songs of our Hawaiian birds who called this place home.

The untouched places on Earth are where I find the most creativity and inspiration. The prehistoric valleys of Kauaʻi draw me back time and time again to explore their unparalleled beauty. During a private helicopter flight, the setting sun illuminated this mountain, revealing a glimpse into its history of time and transformation. Seeing every ridge carved into its face from millions of years of erosion left me in awe in this divine moment.

At over 10,000 feet above the sea, Haleakalā Crater is unlike anywhere else on Earth. With its deeply sculpted, richly colored, and forever changing landscape, overlooking this place from the summit will leave you in awe. This long-exposure photograph reveals the dance of swirling clouds around the large volcanic cinder cones in the sunset twilight.

A break in the clouds reveals a spectacular view inside Haleakalā Crater. After hiking several miles into this volcanic landscape, I captured this candid moment of a traveling friend. To my surprise, the colors of her clothing matched the beautiful scene she sat here to observe.

During the global pandemic of 2020, Haleakalā National Park was uncrowded for the first time in years. It was such a peaceful place to witness during these unprecedented times.. I intended to capture these long sun rays just as the sun broke the horizon to represent a time of rebirth and renewal.

After 8 hours and 11 miles of arduous hiking across the Na Pali Coast, I marveled at this view near the end of the trail. Seeing all the valleys I had just traversed through, illuminated in the golden light of the setting sun was astonishing.
