EMERGING EARTH:Volcanic Eruptions of Mauna Loa
The Earth is ever-changing...
What appears to be solid is actually in motion.
NAKOTA
This photograph is dedicated to Nakota Kai Crumbo - Rest In Peace. After envisioning this photograph for a few years, all the right weather conditions finally aligned with the phase and timing of the rising moonlight, unfortunately on the day of Nakota’s passing. This 20-minute long exposure photograph reveals a high resolution glimpse into the dawning of Halloween at Haleakalā Crater. The star trail movement conveys the rotation of the Earth during the capture.

BETWEEN DREAMS
This 20 minute, long-exposure photograph reveals the transition of the night into the first light of day – a time and space in between dreams. Photographed along the Kīpahulu Coast of Haleakalā National Park.
Enlighten
Though my years and experience of photographing Kauai from private helicopters, new creative processes emerge as I continue to learn the topography and study the angles of light. An aerial panoramic photograph of the Na Pali Coast, illuminated by the golden glow of the setting sun had been on my mind for years. The conditions were so clear during one of many attempts to create this piece, and to see the results come to life are a dream come true.
VITAMIN SEA
When the weather rolls through, the volcanic sands of Hawaiian black sand beaches exemplify such a unique beauty. The rising sun shines through a curtain of rain, shimmering light onto the dancing waves of the Pacific.
Weaving Wisdom
The banyan tree is considered to be a symbol of longevity and/or immortality. It grows aerial roots from its branches that form additional trunks and anchor the tree to the ground. I believe this is a tree that represents the intelligence of nature, and the web of life that connects all living things. Its presence is both therapeutic and healing to the human eye.
A New Light
After flying through sheets of rain during a private helicopter flight, most of the island stood under shadows of clouds. While passing along the Nā Pali Coast, I watched sunshine break through a hole in the sky, casting a beautiful light onto these stunning sea cliffs. My favorite moments of being a landscape artist occur through discovery and present observation. Only then do I feel captivated to draw my camera.
TIDES OF GOLD
After scouting the southern shores of Maui for hours, I came across this alluring tide pool filled with vibrant, living sea moss. I studied the seascape and developed my composition before the sun touched the horizon, hoping the sky would illuminate with the sunset. The clouds in the sky caught fire, completing this scene of divine colors.
ENDLESS BLUE
Off the northern sea cliffs of Maui, the depths and tones of blue in these pristine waters captivated me in the morning light. While on a private boat, I created a motion abstract of the ocean to give a timeless perspective of its endless blue colors.
A PLACE TO CALL HOME
After 11 miles of arduous hiking down the Nā Pali Coast, I was blessed to arrive in Kalalau Valley with this stunning sunset. A place to call home for the next few days...
LIVING WATER
At Peʻahi, also known as Jaws, the underwater landscape requires swells of at least 25 feet before waves will crest and shape into a beautiful barrel. Photographed from a private boat, I watched this incredible surf break come to life in the early morning light as the pulse of the Pacific reached the northern coast of Maui.

GAIA
Nestled deep within the lush, verdant heart of Kauaʻi lies Waialeale Crater, one of the world’s richest and most biodiverse ecosystems. Often hailed as the wettest place on Earth, this ancient shield volcano has transformed from desolate lava into a sanctuary of life over the course of five million years.
